Universal theme park London: How far will the new attraction be from the capital?

It's official, a Universal theme park is coming to the UK, but how far exactly will it be from London?

Universal is set to open its first UK theme park and luckily for Londoners it won't be too far from the capital.

This week a deal was finally made on Universal's plans to open its first theme park in Europe.

On Wednesday (April 9) plans were given the green light following an agreement between Universal, the Government and the Bedford local council.

The estimated 476-acre complex which isn’t expected to open until 2031 is set to be built just north of London in Bedford.

Featuring an array of rides and attractions based on Universal’s many movie franchises including Back to the Future and Jurassic Park the proposed location will see the theme park take over a former bricksworks on the outskirts of the area.

For Londoners the new theme park will be less than a two hour drive away and for those travelling on public transport from the city the journey is just over an hour and a half.

However by the time the attraction is open travel could be quicker.

Universal has pledged to create better transport links for the park with upgrades to the nearby Wixams railway station which is already under construction and build a new station on the East West Rail line.
