When is the next full moon? How to see spectacular Sturgeon Moon in London this week
The best spots for Londoners to spot the huge Sturgeon full moon this weekend
Londoners will be able to see a full Sturgeon Moon in the capital’s skies this Friday (August 8) and Saturday (August 9).
The August full moon gets its name from the fish species that in North America would appear in large numbers in local waters during this time.
Also known as the green corn moon and the grain moon around the world, another popular name is the red moon due to its reddish hue that often takes on in the summer haze.
It will be the eighth full moon of the year, following July’s Buck Moon, and will come before September’s Harvest Moon.
While those in high-rise buildings could be lucky enough to see the lunar spectacle from their window, others can head to high points across the city to get a look.
Here’s everything Londoners hoping to see the Sturgeon Moon in the capital this week need to know.
How and when to see the Sturgeon Moon 2025 in London
Those hoping to get a glimpse of the Sturgeon Moon in London won’t have to worry about getting a telescope, as it will be visible by the naked eye. However, both weather and light pollution could end up obstructing the lunar spectacle.
While the capital is one of the most light-polluted spots in the country, it’s still possible to stargaze.
City dwellers may be able to catch a glimpse of the Sturgeon Moon if they head to a higher vantage point, such as a rooftop or even a local park.
There are a number of spots throughout London in which locals and visitors may be able to see it.
One of the most renowned places is Morden Hall Park in South London but both Primrose Hill and Greenwich Park could also offer clear views.
