Strictly Come Dancing fans rejoice, as celebrities taking part in the show are slowly being revealed ahead of the popular BBC One show.

It’s a landmark year for the show, as it’s celebrating its 20 year anniversary and the BBC is celebrating 100 years of broadcasting.

It’s been eight months since Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice won the latest series of the show, with the powerful ‘silent dance’ winning awards and wowing viewers worldwide.

With celebrities slowly being announced, here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming series.

What celebrities have been confirmed?

So far, only two celebrities have been confirmed, and they are Will Mellor and Kym Marsh.

As we edge closer to the start date, more celebrities will be revealed and this article will be updated accordingly.

Will Mellor is an English actor, singer and model.

He is best known for his roles as Jambo Bolton in Hollyoaks, Gaz Wilkinson in Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, DC Spike Tanner in No Offence, Steve Connolly in Broadchurch, Georgie in Barking! and Ollie Curry in White Van Man.

His most recent acting gig was in 2021, where he began appearing in the ITV soap opera Coronation Street as evil drug runner and gangster Harvey Gaskell.

It could be an interesting stint for Mellor, who may have an edge over the other contestants as his wife, who he shares two children with is also a dancer, and the pair have been married for 15 years.

Who is Kym Marsh?

Kym Marsh is an English actress, television presenter and singer.

Her singing career started in 2001 when she won a place in the band Hear’Say as a result of appearing on the reality television series Popstars.

Despite appearing in a golden era for UK bands, achieving two UK number one singles and a UK number one album.

Marsh ultimately left the band in 2002, as she pursued a solo career. Her solo career did relatively well, as her debut album Standing Tall, released in 2003, peaked at number nine in the UK and produced two UK top ten singles.

It was on the cobbles where she found her true calling, as she portrayed the role of Michelle Connor from 2006 to 2019, where she was embroiled in many high profile storylines, and for a brief period of time, Connor was the landmark of the iconic Rovers Return pub.

When does Strictly Come Dancing 2022 start?

On Wednesday, 7 August, a launch show will be recorded and is earmarked to be aired live on Saturday, 10 September 2022.

The show is set to last for around three month, ending around two weeks before Christmas.

In a statement, the show said: “Dust off your dancing shoes, Strictly Come Dancing is back!

“The stunning 20th series returns, bringing glamour and show-stopping dancing back to Saturday nights on BBC One – and we’re extremely excited to be able to welcome an audience back to the studio for this year’s shows.”

Can I get tickets to see the launch show?

Applications are still open to go and see the live launch show which is being recorded on Wednesday, 7 September 2022 at Elstree Studios in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire.

You can apply via the official BBC website, with filming expected to start at around 4:30pm, and will finish at 10:30pm.

You can only apply for one pair of tickets, and only apply if you intend to be the named ticket holder.

Tickets are non-transferable and cannot be transferred to another date or person.
