At the time, the news was announced by Fleetwood Mac in a joint statement, which read: “There are no words to describe our sadness at the passing of Christine McVie. She was truly one of a kind, special and talented beyond measure. She was the best musician anyone could have in their band and the best friend anyone could have in their life.
“We were so lucky to have a life with her. Individually and together, we cherished Christine deeply and are thankful for the amazing memories we have. She will be so very missed.”
At live concerts during 2023, Nicks paid tribute to her friend. In Atlanta in May she talked about a song that helped her through.

As long as Chris was, even on the other side of the world. We didn’t have to talk on the phone, we really weren’t phone buddies. Then we would go back to Fleetwood Mac, and we would walk in and it would be like: ‘Little sister, how are you?’ It was like never a minute had passed, never an argument in our entire 47 years."
Following cheers from fans, Nicks continued: “So, when it was the two of us, the two of us were on our own, kids, we always were. And now, I’m having to learn to be on my own, kid, by myself. So, you help me to do that. Thank you.”
