Primrose Hill: Listen to sons of Beatles John Lennon and Paul McCartney pay tribute to Camden spot

Sean Ono Lennon and James McCartney have worked together for the first time on a song set on Camden’s Primrose Hill.

“We laid on Primrose Hill, didn’t know it still, remember what you said? An overcast sultry day, I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t know what to say. We laid there forever, forgot everything, kissed beneath the stars...”

Those are the opening lyrics of Primrose Hill by the sons of two of the biggest names in pop.

John Lennon and Paul McCartney were the chief songwriters for The Beatles, as the band changed music and culture around the world. Now their offspring have joined forces for the first time and released a song together.

James McCartney and his “good friend” Sean Ono Lennon have co-written an acoustic ballad called Primrose Hill, in tribute to the panoramic viewpoint above London’s Regent’s Park. You can listen to it in the video above.

McCartney said: “With the release of this song it feels like we’re really getting the ball rolling and I am so excited to continue to share music with you.”

The 46-year-old said the track was inspired by a vision he had as a child on “a lovely summer’s day” in Scotland.

James, son of Paul and Linda McCartney, had previously worked on albums with his parents and released the solo song Beautiful in February this year.

Sean, 48, is the son of John Lennon and Yoko Ono and has been in bands including The Lennon Claypool Delirium, and released solo tracks.
