What is the No Trousers Tube Ride?

The phenomenon started in 2002, with New York’s No Pants Subway Ride and it’s since become an international event.

It’s a way to challenge people to take part in something a bit silly, all while keeping a perfectly straight face about it all.

People are invited to meet at an agreed location where they’ll split off into groups and ride across the rail networks in major cities in their underwear.

It’ll take place on subway systems in several cities around the world on Sunday January 7.

How to take part

Anyone can take part in the No Trousers Tube Ride. To join in, head to the meeting place at Newport Place in Chinatown, WC2H 7JR at 2.45pm.

Event organisers will then lead groups to nearby tube stations.

The only listed rules for the day require people to be:

  • Willing to take trousers off on the Tube
  • Able to keep a straight face about it

Read a newspaper, scroll through your phone, just do whatever you’d normally do on the tube.

People are also asked to leave their linguire at home and to wear appropriate underwear.

The event is to be followed by an after party with turnout dependent on Tube strike impact.

Transport for London (TfL) has advised all Londoners to complete Tube journeys by 5.30pm.
