Miyazaki’s My Neighbour Totoro coming to London West End stage - how to get tickets

“It’s an incredibly special show that has managed to marry beautiful technical design with so much heart and humanity.”

An award-winning stage adaptation of a classic Japanese animated film will transfer to London’s West End in 2025.

My Neighbour Totoro, adapted from Hayao Miyazaki’s 1988 Studio Ghibli film of the same name, will run at the Gillian Lynne Theatre from March 8 to November 2 next year.

The Royal Shakespeare Company's production had two runs at the Barbican Theatre, where it broke the venue’s box office record for most tickets sold in a single day.

Director Phelim McDermott said: “I am constantly delighted by the love that My Neighbour Totoro receives from audiences of all ages, both from those who already cherish the film and those newly introduced to the story of Mei and Satsuki.”

My Neighbour Totoro’s protagonists are Mei and Satsuki, two sisters in postwar Japan, who move to the countryside and encounter a magical forest spirit called Totoro.

McDermott added: “It is truly an honour to share the joy of this production with thousands more in London’s West End.”

My Neighbour Totoro won six Olivier Awards and five WhatsOnStage Awards in 2023.

Playwright Tom Morton-Smith, who adapted the play for the stage, said: “I am delighted that our take on Totoro will make the move into the West End next year. It’s an incredibly special show that has managed to marry beautiful technical design with so much heart and humanity.”

The production features work by composer Joe Hisaishi and is presented by the Royal Shakespeare Company, in collaboration with Nippon TV and Improbable.

Priority booking for My Neighbour Totoro opens on April 29, and public booking from May 3.
