Luckily for us, we don’t have to travel that far to see our own adorable pygmy hippos - because London Zoo has a cutie of its own.

London Zoo’s resident pygmy hippo expert posted a video on the socials over the weekend saying she is “glad the world has caught up and realised pygmy hippos are the best animal that has ever walked this Earth.”

“What’s really exciting for me as a pygmy hippo enthusiast is that the species is getting the spotlight. It has never ever gotten before.

“People didn’t know that pygmy hippos exist, they think that they are baby common hippos when they are actually a completely different species. It’s just so exciting the world has woken up and discovered pygmy hippos through Moo Deng.”

London Zoo is home to an adorable pygmy hippo named Amara. According to keepers, there is nothing she loves more than getting plenty of sleep and long soaks in warm water.

There are less than 2500 pygmy hippos left in the wild, and a Nigerian subspecies has already gone extinct.

So if you’ve fallen in love with Moo Deng, why not pay a visit to London Zoo and get your pygmy hippo fix - IRL!
