The hot air balloon spectacular was due to take place on Sunday, 20th July, however it has been called off amid a thunderstorm warning.

Weather forecasts are predicting thunderstorms and heavy rain for London this weekend.

According to BBC Weather, London will experience torrential rain and thunderstorms throughout Saturday and into Sunday morning.

It would not be safe for the hot air balloons to take the skies above the capital in poor weather.

The hot air balloon festival was stood down earlier this year due to high winds. Organisers expressed concerns the balloons would be guided into the path of Heathrow Airport.

Each year up to fifty hot air balloons take flight across central London raising awareness and funds for the Lord Mayor’s Appeal.

The 2020 and 2021 Lord Mayor’s Hot Air Balloon Regatta were stood down due to the pandemic. While the 2022, 2023 and 2024 editions could not proceed due to poor weather conditions.

The 2025 event will be postponed to Sunday, 27th July, the final standby date for this year.
