IKEA Oxford Street opens today - here's what you need to know

Oxford Street shoppers will be able to explore the new Ikea as it finally opens its doors.

Ikea has confirmed its new Oxford Street store will officially open this Thursday (May 1) two and a half years after it was originally scheduled to.

The store which was once home to Topshop was initially slated to open in late 2023. This deadline ended up being pushed back twice before the retailer eventually revealed it was working towards a spring 2025 opening last year.

Keeping to their word Ikea have now confirmed this Thursday will be the official opening day of the Oxford Street location.

Outside the store LED screen window displays are currently counting down to the venue’s opening with a few buses with routes down the famous shopping street having also been wrapped to look like the brand’s famous blue bag to promote its opening.

From Thursday the store will be open from 10am to 8pm Monday to Sunday and 12pm to 6pm on Sundays.

The new store boasts six floors of which will of course have Ikea's famous showroom as well as a curated shops featuring edits designed by fellow Londoners and a Swedish Deli.

CEO and Chief Sustainability Officer, IKEA UK has described the new opening as a “milestone”.

He added: “Created in collaboration with real voices and with Londoners in mind, opening our doors is a landmark moment following a meticulous renovation and we are truly excited to share it.”
