Bakery chain Greggs' Leicester Square location has won its long running battle to sell its baked goods overnight. The news comes as the sausage roll retailer had prepared for a three-day court hearing this week.

Greggs' central location opened its doors last summer as the bakery chain set up residency alongside some of the capital’s most luxurious cinemas. At the time, the bakery chain applied for extended opening hours for its Leicester Square store, which would allow the retailer to provide baked goods to customers into the early morning.

While the application was refused by Westminster City Council, nine months on, the bakery chain was revealed to be planning to appeal the decision in court in April. The three-day court hearing was set to start on Tuesday (May 16) and conclude this Thursday (May 18). However, after an agreement was reached outside of court, this did not go ahead.

As part of the agreement between the bakery chain and Westminster City Council, Greggs will be able to sell pastry offerings to Londoners until 2am. As stated on the Greggs website, its Leicester Square location is currently open until 11pm between Monday - Thursday and Sunday.

The new store times, which see the location open until 2am, will take place on Fridays and Saturdays. On both days, the store will be open from 7am until 2am.

While Londoners will now be able to flock to the location for a late-night sausage roll, other items on its hot food menu, such as pizzas, will not be sold after 11pm. The store will also have to keep on top of rubbish outside the shop and install CCTV as part of the agreement.
