Among those is Londoner Illiyin Morrison, who prides herself on flavour-packed bakes.

The baker, who was born in London but grew up in Norfolk, where she now lives told the Radio Times, that her creations can sometimes “lack finesse!”

31-year-old midwife, Illyin was reportedly in her kitchen when she received the call to say she’d been accepted to appear on Bake Off.

She told the Radio Times she was “shocked for days.”

Illyin is hoping to impress Bake Off judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith, with her Middle Eastern-inspired bakes.

In her day job, the midwife is a birth trauma specialist. It is her role to help expectant mothers to navigate the rollercoaster of labour.

She is also a published author. Her book The Birth Debrief: Reflecting on Pregnancy, Reframing Birth, Redefining Post-Partum was published in March 2023.

Illiyin learned to cook and bake from her mother and quickly established herself as the go-to family member for birthday cakes.

The mum-of-two loves using Middle Eastern ingredients such as dried fruits, nuts, and honey in her bakes, which are often inspired by flavours of the Caribbean.

You can follow Illiyin on Instagram under the handle @mixing.up.motherhood - where she has amassed a whopping 55,000 followers.

She also has a website for her professional work, mixingupmotherhood.com
