F Cooke closed its Broadway Market shop in 2019 after 120 years, but this month it returns - just for one day.

The pie and mash house still has its Chelmsford branch, having been established in 1862, more than 160 years ago. Another F Cooke, owned by a different member of the family, is still open in Hoxton Street.

On Saturday September 23 F Cooke ‘Live Eel Importer’ will be back in its old spot in Hackney’s Broadway Market.

Spectacle maker Cubitts took over the Grade II listed building their home this summer, recognising F Cooke’s heritage by preserving the original signage, food counter and dining benches.

Cubitts has invited F Cooke back to serve pies - made from scratch at the Essex branch - to the east London community out of its former window hatch.

From 11am on September 23, passers-by can head down to enjoy the family recipes until stock runs out (while shopping for glasses if they wish).

The pop-up will be cash only at 9 Broadway Market, serving traditional pie, mash and liquor. The event also has an Eventbrite page.
