It’s set to be a Dog Day Afternoon in London next July, as some of music’s most iconic acts join together for an afternoon at Crystal Palace Park. Legendary rocker Iggy Pop joins up with new-wave icons Blondie and supergroup Generation Sex for Dog Day Afternoon 2023, taking place July 1, 2023.

Frontman for proto-punk pioneers The Stooges before making a name for himself with a successful solo career, Iggy Pop is considered one of the elder statesmen of the punk scene. Recording the incredibly influential Raw Power with The Stooges in 1972, Iggy Pop ventured to Berlin after the second break up of the band which led to collaborations with music legend David Bowie. The basis of this relationship was used in part for the 1998 movie Velvet Goldmine, as Iggy Pop continues to present on BBC 6 Music.

Debbie Harry became a pin-up in the new wave scene through her work with Blondie, who like Iggy Pop have been hugely influential on musicians that followed afterwards. Blondie’s third album, Parallel Lines, has regularly featured on “greatest album of all time” lists as Harry lent influence to artists such as Poly Styrene of X-Ray Spex and even modern musicians Hayley Williams and Katy Perry.

Generation Sex is an exciting prospect for Dog Day Afternoon, however. The band is an amalgamation of two important punk bands from the peak of the London movement in the 70s, as Billy Idol (Generation X) teams up with Sex Pistols members Steve Jones and Paul Cook.

Festival Republic have also promised a number of special guests will feature throughout the event, old school punks in London might want to dust off their Doc Martin shoes, work on that mohawk and pick up tickets for what is sure to be a nostalgia trip of anarchic old.
