Diwali 2025 in London: 3 events to celebrate the Festival of Lights this weekend

We’ve rounded up three Diwali events where Londoners can celebrate the festival of lights in the city this month.

Diwali, also known as the festival of lights, is one of the major festivals celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs, Jains and some Buddhists.

The five day festival falls during the Hindu lunar month Kartika, and takes place in the autumn between mid-October and mid-November in the Gregorian calendar.

This year, Diwali will be celebrated on October 20, just before Halloween festivities take over the city.

Here are some of the upcoming London Diwali events where city locals can celebrate the festival of lights.

1. Diwali on the Square 2025

Trafalgar Square is set to host a massive celebration this October, and best of all, it’s free for all.

From mesmerising dance performances to main stage music, there will also be an array of food stalls serving up traditional dishes.

When: October 12 1pm - 7pm

Where: Trafalgar Square, London

2. Diwali on the Peninsula

Another free and family-friendly event in the capital is set to take place in Greenwich’s Peninsula.

On the day, there will be creative workshops including lantern making as well as an array of street food vendors.

When: October 18 2pm - 7pm

Where: Peninsula Square

3. Harrow Diwali Fireworks display

Fireworks are always a big part of the celebrations, and this display in Harrow combines its Diwali festivities with Bonfire Night.

The fireworks kick off at around 7.45pm, but it’s an all-day shindig: gates open at midday (and entry is free before 3pm) with a choreographed Diwali dance team, a fun fair, face painting, henna hand art, and more.

Buy tickets on the Harrow Fireworks website to get a discount, or turn up on the day to pay full price (remember it’s cash only on the gate).

When: November 8

Where: Byron Park, Harrow
