Inside David Bowie's childhood home where he wrote Space Oddity

David Bowie’s childhood home is set to be restored and opened to the public.

David Bowie fans will soon be able to step inside the very place where his musical journey began, as his London childhood home is set to be restored and opened to the public.

The Heritage of London Trust has announced the landmark acquisition of the former family home of the late icon, where he lived from the age of eight until 20 - and where he wrote his breakthrough hit Space Oddity.

The modest “two up, two down” railway workers’ cottage in Bromley is set to be carefully restored to reflect its early 1960s appearance, offering visitors a glimpse of what it would have looked like when Bowie lived there.

Due to open in late 2027, the experience will centre on his small 9ft by 10ft bedroom - the very room where his love of music and trailblazing creativity first took shape.

Ahead of the restoration, a special blue plaque has also gone up by the front door to highlight Bowie’s childhood years there.
