In Pictures: Stars of the Amy Winehouse biopic Back to Black at the premiere

Stars of the Amy Winehouse biopic all wore black on the red carpet at the Odeon Luxe in Leicester Square.

Stars of the new Amy Winehouse biopic Back to Black dazzled on the red carpet at the film’s premiere in Leicester Square on Monday evening.

Named after the late London-born singer’s second and final studio album, the new movie follows the singer's life creating the now iconic record.

The cast - including Marisa Abela, Jack O’Connell and Eddie Marsan - were all dressed in black in keeping with the movie’s title.

Also making an appearance on the red carpet were the late singer’s parents, Janis and Mitch Winehouse.

Abela, 27, who plays the title role of Amy, starred in the HBO series Industry and the Sky series Cobra. She told Sky News she hopes the movie will shine a light on the stars talents as she felt her "life had been so picked apart that it was hard to sort of feel anything but the tragedy".

O’Connell, 33, who plays the singer’s former husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, is best known for the role of Cook in Skins.

Winehouse, who was famous for her deep soulful vocals, struggled with addiction and bulimia throughout her music career. She died of alcohol poisoning on July 23 2011, aged 27.

Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, Back to Black follows the late star from her early days as a north London jazz musician to becoming a Grammy-award winning star.

Taylor-Johnson says she used journals, songs and writings from the Rehab singer to create the biopic.

Back to Black is out in UK cinemas on Friday April 12.
