Remembering this iconic Harrods Christmas campaign from 2005

The early 2000s are a strange time to look back on, it’s hard to believe that 2005 was (basically) 20 years ago.

While scouring through the Getty Images archive this morning - as I frequently do - I stumbled across some photos that I think perfectly sum up the noughties.
A Christmas campaign from Harrods that is nothing short of iconic.

The campaign promo featured socialite Tamara Beckwith strolling through Knightsbridge with arms full of Harrods gifts and a pygmy goat named Mushroom.
The London ‘It girl’ is wearing a tailored jacket with a pop of red for Christmas and a pair of early 00s sunglasses.
While Mushroom opted for a more minimalist natural look.
The dynamic duo launched World Vision's Alternative Gift Catalogue, a one-week Christmas charity promotion, at Harrods Knightsbridge.

The campaign which went live in November 2005, meant shoppers could use a special catalogue to buy alternative festive gifts for family and friends, including goats, sheep, immunisation for a child, mosquito nets, solar panels, and wheelchairs.
These items were then given to communities, families, and schools in poor developing countries such as Ethiopa, Zambia and Bolivia.
It’s funny how trends come around full circle because I truly believe this campaign would land very well with audiences today. Slay diva.
