11 brilliant photos of England fans celebrating Iran World Cup win in Qatar and at home

A look at England fans celebrating their nation’s 2022 FIFA World Cup opening game win over Iran.

England are up and running in the 2022 FIFA World Cup after a comfortable win against Iran.

The Three Lions made easy work of Carlos Queroz’s men, winning 6-2 in Doha to put three points on the board. England scored three by half-time, with Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka and Raheem Sterling all on target.

Saka then added a superb second, and Iran fired back quickly thanks to a stunning finish from Mehdi Taremi. Marcus Rashford added a fifth when he scored with his third touch of the ball. The final England goal arrived after Callum Wilson burst through before playing an unselfish pass to Jack Grealish to tap home, but Iran did score a pently late on through Teremi, who got his second.

England came into this competition in rotten form after a rather disastrous Nations League campaign, but they have now regained some much-needed confidence with such a comfortable win.

Gareth Southgate’s men were confident on the ball and managed to pick off Iran despite their low block, and there were plenty of encouraging aspects to take into the rest of the tournament. England face USA next up, and they finish their group stage locan rivals Wales.

England will want to win their group to ensure access to what looks like being an easier side of the bracket, should the other groups go to script.

But in the meantime, we have rounded up some of the best pictures from a celebratory afternoon for England fans home and abroad.
