There are just two EFL teams left in the competition - Port Vale and Middlesbrough. As they are set to play each other in the quarters, there will be a representative from the Football League in the League Cup semi-finals this season.

Last season, Manchester United lifted the League Cup trophy, as they defeated Newcastle United by a score of 2-0 in the final at Wembley Stadium. This season, United crashed out in the 4th round of the tournament thanks to the team they defeated in last year’s final - meaning we are guaranteed a new winner this season. Will a London club take home the prize back to the capital?

When will the League Cup semi-finals take place and are they over two legs?

This season, the League Cup semi-finals will take place on the week beginning January 8 and the week beginning January 21. The first leg of the semi-finals will likely be held on January 9 and 10, while the second leg will be played on January 22 and 23. Teams will play each play one leg at their home grounds, with the other leg being played away from home.

Following this, the final of the competition will be played on February 25 and will take place at, as always, Wembley Stadium. The draw for the semi-finals normally takes place after the last televised match, which is West Ham's trip to Liverpool.
