West Ham United manager David Moyes faced the inevitable question that came with a Jarrod Bowen hat-trick at the London Stadium on Monday night - should he be in Gareth Southgate's England plans?

The forward has five caps for the Three Lions but could be considered an outsider to make the squad for Euro 2024 in Germany this summer. However, as the 27-year-old's three goals lifted him to third in the Premier League goalscoring chart, Moyes was asked whether he might now be in Southgate's mind.

The West Ham boss said: "I'm really pleased for Jarrod. I think his performances recently have gone a wee bit unnoticed because we've not played that well. Jarrod has actually been taking the fight in all the games and it's not really fallen to him or quite happened. Tonight it did. The goals will obviously be the noticeable thing but his all-round play, the way he's working away, I thought he had three of four other ones in the game where he was a threat all night.

"Generally, I think the goals will get him back in Gareth's thinking. I'm not saying he was out of Gareth's thinking. I think in the last squad he was in and around it. If you can play wide and you can play centre-forward and you're a goalscorer, you'll always be interesting to the national manager."

Moyes also had praise for forward Lucas Paqueta, who returned to the Hammers side after a lengthy period on the sidelines with injury. The Scotsman complimented the star's immediate influence.

He said: "We were really worried because we brought him back and he broke down. He has been training but I'm not sure when you come back from injury you hit the ground running, it takes two to three weeks to get up to speed.

"I thought Paqueta made a huge impact on the team and the crowd as well. His ability to make key passes, take possession, to be a matchwinner. I know Jarrod will go down as a matchwinner but Paqueta in a lot of ways helped us in getting to that point of winning the game."
