West Ham fell to a hugely disappointing draw on Saturday, continuing their struggles.

West Ham missed the chance to pick up a win again on Saturday, conceding a late equaliser against relegated Southampton. The Hammers led through Jarrod Bowen, but their late concession means, not only do the Saints equal Derby County’s record-low points total of 11, but it means the Irons have won just two of their last 12 games.

Graham Potter can hardly buy a win, struggling in his early months in charge of the club, and concern will be growing, with Southampton looking particularly below the Premier League standard this season.

Fans were unhappy after the game, and so was Hammers striker Niclas Fullkrug, who did not hold back. "I am very angry. Not disappointed, just angry for what we did after the [Bowen] goal," he told Sky Sports. "It was difficult to bring the boys back to push up. We didn't push up anymore. We tried but we didn't have the ability or the motivation to push up again.

"I'm very, very angry that we played like this because we had some minutes where we showed what we can do against an opponent like that at home. We showed that we can have good possession, that we have can go in behind and that we have the chances to score again. But the motivation, sorry, we were s***. I'm very angry."

The striker added: “I think there were 25 to 30 minutes in the second half which were very good and we showed that we can have very good possessions, that we can go in behind [Southampton’s defence], and that we could have the chances to score again.

“It's not the first time that we scored a goal and... we don't try to play [possession] football anymore, we don't push up anymore, we just sink and that's not the way we want to play. When we can play 65 minutes before with possession, even if it's not perfect, we tried to play with possession, we tried to create chances, we tried to score and then we scored a goal and after that, [the way we played] that's not the way it works.

“We have to find a way to have a togetherness, to have the idea of where we want to go, what we want to do, and the coach is very clear in what he wants but we have to do it all, [and] everyone has to do it. It’s just my feelings today.”

Ashton calls out Potter

Former West Ham striker Dean Ashton criticised Potter for his management of the Southampton game, saying on TalkSPORT: “It’s a bit of a shocker. I’m not going to lie. It’s a shocker for West Ham and also to allow Southampton to have 15 shots at your goal, when you are playing at home against a side that are well and truly relegated.

“It is not a good look. It isn’t. And also I think the fact he took Bowen off, brought Mavropanos on and went very deep in the game, against Southampton. Those are the sort of things that won’t sit well at all with the West Ham supporters.”
