West Ham 'want to sign' £20 million Championship winger in summer transfer window

West Ham United are said to be keen on a highly-rated winger who currently plays in the Championship.

West Ham United are already making preparations ahead of the 2024 summer transfer window - while it is still several months away, they need to gather all the data they can in order to make informed decisions when the time comes.

One of the players they are thought to be interested in is Jack Clarke. The former Tottenham Hotspur man has been tearing the Championship up this season for Sunderland - not only has he played almost every minute in the League for them, he has also scored 15 goals from out wide with four assists to go with them.

At the age of just 23, the sky is the limit for Clarke. Sunderland recognise how important he is to the club and won't let him go without a fight - West Ham had a £15 million offer rejected for him in January. If they want to snap him up in the summer, they will be required to pay a fee of no less than £20 million, according to Football Insider.

Who else is interested in a move for Jack Clarke?

West Ham aren't the only club who are interested in a move for Sunderland's Clarke. He has also been linked with transfers to clubs such as Southampton, Sheffield United, Brentford, Crystal Palace, Burnley and Lazio. If the Black Cats do not secure promotion to the Premier League this season, which looks likely considering their position in the table, Clarke will probably depart the Stadium of Light for greener pastures.

Of all the clubs mentioned, West Ham have the vastest wealth of financial resources. Lazio could provide the Hammers with some sturdy competition, but it is unclear if he is willing to ply his trade abroad or not. Like West Ham, they also put forth a bid for the player in January, only for it to be rejected by Sunderland.
