West Ham United have been linked with a move for Sassuolo midfielder Daniel Boloca - the Hammers have reportedly ‘already moved to study him closely’. While they have yet to make an official approach for the player, their interest in him seems apparent.

He made his international debut for Romania in 2022 - as things stand, this is his only foray into international football. Since this, he has declared his preference to represent Italy on the international stage - because his only appearance for Romania was in a friendly game, he is still free to swap allegiances to his country of birth.

So far, almost all Boloca’s professional career to date has taken place in Italy (outside of a brief spell in Slovakia) - he progressed through the youth ranks at Juventus, going on to play for clubs such as Pro Sesto, Francavilla and Frosinone. So far this season, the 24-year-old has made ten appearances across all competitions for Sassuolo, scoring a single goal in the league along the way.

Currently, West Ham appear to be the only club who have been linked with a move for Boloca, according to a recent report from Tuttosport - however, with the January transfer window looming, this could change in an instant.

What would Daniel Boloca add to the West Ham squad?

A defensive midfielder by trade, Boloca could prove to be an excellent backup to Edson Alvarez - while the Mexican international is a fine holding player, the Hammers are currently somewhat short of quality depth in this position.

The only other options that West Ham have in defensive midfielder are Conor Coventry and Tomas Soucek. Despite this, Coventry isn’t quite up to the standard that the Irons would like him to be, while Soucek is more suited to playing in more advanced roles, given his impressive goal output.
