West Ham United defender shares emotional social media update after ‘cruel’ injury blow

West Ham United star Lucy Parker is “heartbroken” after pulling out of the England squad.

The 23-year-old was handed her first international call-up by England boss Sarina Wiegman last month but won’t be fulfilling her duties.

This week, the Lionesses are at the Lensbury resort in west London making preparations for friendlies against the United States and the Czech Republic.

Parker, meanwhile, remains at West Ham where she is undergoing rehabilitation after picking up a knock during the Hammers’ Continental Cup game against London City Lionesses.

It’s a huge blow for the Cambridge-born centre-back, who last week joked that she had bought Wembley tickets for the match she could possibly feature in.

On Wednesday, Parker took to Twitter to share her disappointment.

“Football can be cruel, and this feeling will take some time to process,” wrote Parker, who has played every Women’s Super League minute for Paul Konchesky’s side this season.

“Heartbroken doesn’t cover it.

“Another obstacle to overcome, but I will be back stronger once again.”

West Ham boss Konchesky sent the youngster message of support: “You got this Luce! Stay strong, keep fighting and ur [sic] be back stronger.”

Fans have also been reacting to the news of Parker’s withdrawal:
