The eye-catching West Ham and Wolves transfer swap deal in January involving Nuno Espirito Santo favourite

West Ham boss Nuno Espirito Santo wants to put his own stamp on his newly inherited squad in the January transfer window

West Ham picked up a useful 1-1 draw away at Manchester United on Thursday night. They fell behind in the second half when Diogo Dalot struck for the hosts. The Hammers managed to find an equaliser near the end through summer signing Soungoutou Magassa.

The London outfit are positioned in 18th place in the Premier League table after their first 14 fixtures. They are inside the drop zone along with Leeds United and Burnley and are two points from safety behind Leeds United. Next up for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side is an away trip to Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday afternoon.

West Ham linked with Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa

West Ham have been linked with a move for Wolves goalkeeper Josa Sa ahead of the January transfer window. According to Football Insider, they are interested in landing the stopper this winter. He has lost his position as the number one at Molineux over recent times to Sam Johnstone.

Sa, 32, has been playing his football in the Midlands since 2021. Prior to his move to England, he had spells at Maritimo, Porto and Olympiacos. The Portugal international, who has made three caps for his country, has made 150 appearances for his current club in all competitions to date, four of which have come this season.

The Hammers could see the experienced ‘keeper as someone to battle it out for their position between the sticks. They are currently well stocked up with options in that department in Alphonse Areola, Mads Hermansen and Lukasz Fabianski. Sa is someone who Nuno knows well though and may have identified him as a useful person to have in and around the dressing room.

West Ham should propose transfer swap deal to Wolves in January transfer window

West Ham should offer Wolves someone in return as part of a swap deal for Sa next month. Guido Rodriguez was snapped up by the London outfit in August last year. However, his move hasn’t worked out and a change of scene would do him good.

The Hammers could do with getting the 31-year-old off their books. He struggles to get regular minutes so cutting ties with him would be a sensible choice. It would help free up space and funds in their ranks to pave the way for reinforcements.

Rodriguez, who has played 31 times for the Argentina national team in the past, would give Wolves more competition and depth in the middle of the park. He may also feel he has a point to prove in England after failing to make an impact at West Ham. Rob Edwards’ side are rock bottom of the division and are yet to win this term so could do with injecting a bit more quality into their squad.

The Buenos Aires-born man started out at River Plate before spells in Mexico at Tijuana and Club America. Real Betis lured him over to Europe in 2020 and he became a key player for the La Liga side, playing 173 games altogether. The Hammers came calling last year but he is out of favour now under Nuno and a departure soon seems pretty inevitable, especially with his contract up next year.
