West Ham striker Michail Antonio admitted that the players had been discussing the altercation at training this week.

West Ham players have been discussing the sideline spat that took place between Mohamed Salah and Jurgen Klopp on Saturday afternoon when Liverpool visited the London Stadium.

David Moyes' men held the Reds to a point on their travels, landing another huge blow to the Merseyside club's title hopes this season in Klopp's last campaign at Anfield. West Ham took the lead through Jarrod Bowen before Andrew Robertson equalised.

Liverpool looked set to complete the comeback through an Alphonse Areola own goal but Michail Antonio popped up with 77 minutes on the clock to find a leveller for the Hammers. After the match, talk centred on a heated interaction between Liverpool star Salah and Klopp on the sidelines.

The Egypt international didn't start the game and had to settle for a spot on the bench, but was brought on by Klopp with 10 minutes left to play. However, as he prepared to enter the field of play, the two argued by the Liverpool dugout.

Speaking on the Footballer's Football Podcast this week, Antonio said: "This is not insider information. I want to put that out there. What I've heard, what the boys have been talking about on the training ground, every time players come on Klopp gives them a big hug.

"Mo walked a different direction and was doing his shinpads and stuff. Klopp has put his hand out and it was just there for a bit. As Mo stopped doing what he was doing, he kind of just slapped his hand like a hi-five type of thing.

"Klopp didn't like that so is like, 'Do you want to sit back down?'. No one has told me what Mo said back. That's the situation. Because they are not performing, it's going to be turmoil. Knowing the Premier League title could be drifting away from them, tensions are going to be high and they are only human."

The Liverpool manager remained coy on the situation after the game but admitted the two had since spoken about it. Klopp said: "We spoke about it in the dressing room, but it’s done for me. That’s it."

Meanwhile, Salah was caught warning that there would be "fire today if I speak" as he was clearly still disgruntled after full-time. Salah has made 29 Premier League appearances this term, scoring 17 goals and registering nine assists.

Speaking on the BBC podcast, Fulham player Tom Cairney added his opinion. He said: "I understand if he's upset being on the bench, he's been such a big player for them over the years.

"Something must have got said before he came on. The handshake didn't look like a good handshake. Normally they give Klopp a cuddle, they go into a chest, it seemed a bit cold.

"It looked like Klopp said something, he bit back and Klopp isn't used to players biting back as he has that authority and stature. You know something has gone wrong if Nunez is holding you back!"
