West Ham United's pursuit of Peterborough United defender Ronnie Edwards has been well-documented in recent months. A new development has surfaced - according to a report from The Sun, he is 'certain' to be sold in the January transfer window.

While his transfer fee will be somewhat steep for a League One club at £4.5 million (plus some considerable additional fees), it is certainly something that the Hammers can afford. Should they wish to, they would have little problem in bringing him to the London Stadium.

Bringing in a young central defender would be a smart move for the Irons to make - none of their centre-backs are under the age of 26, while Kurt Zouma is at the age of 29 and Angelo Ogbonna is now 35 years old.

So far this season, Edwards has scored two goals for the Posh across 25 games in all competitions - he has yet to rack up any assists as of yet, however. These may not be the most inspiring of numbers, but it is easy to forget that he is only 20 years of age. His defensive solidity for a player as young as him is commendable - Peterborough have the third-meanest defence in League One this season.

Who else is interested in a move for Peterborough United's Ronnie Edwards?

Despite West Ham's interest in Edwards, they are not alone in their pursuit of the Harlow native. Everton have also been linked with a move for him - so have Scottish giants Rangers. Additionally, clubs in both Germany and Belgium are thought to be monitoring the player.

Interest in the player is certainly high. With his exit seemingly just around the corner, this interest will only increase in the coming weeks - West Ham will need to work hard to secure his signature.
