West Ham player ratings vs Newcastle: two score 5/10 but one strong gets 8 /10 in dramatic draw

Substitute Mohammed Kudus was the hero as West Ham United picked a point at home against Newcastle United in the Premier League.

Mohammed Kudus scored his first Premier League goal to rescue a point for West Ham in an entertaining game at the London Stadium.

Two second-half goals from Newcastle in the second half turned the game on its head. The Hammers had started the game the better side with Jarrod Bowen looking to always cause havoc with his direct runs, but it was Emerson who cut through the middle before releasing Tomas Soucek to calmly slot into an empty net and put the home side ahead in a truly dominant first half for the home side.

The visitors looked lethargic throughout the first 45 minutes and the Hammers looked comfortable without needing to force issues, but two quick goals in the second half from Swedish forward Alexander Isak not only levelled things but turned the game on its head, leaving the Hammers staring at another home defeat.

Manager David Moyes reacted to going down for the first time in the game by rolling the dice and bringing on the creativity of Mohammed Kudus and the pace of Said Benrahma as he aggressively chased at least a point from the game.

Kudus as has been the story of his start to life in the Premier League looked dangerous every time he was on the ball and his impact tolled when he finished off brilliantly to level for his side and deny Newcastle United all three points.

Here is how we rated all the Hammers players out there:
