West Ham fans left Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with chants of "It's happening again" after a 2-1 win.
The Hammers visited Tottenham Hotspur Stadium six points and four places off their rivals.
Lukasz Fabianski started between the sticks with Alphonse Areola suffering a wrist injury. Kurt Zouma returned to the defence after missing the Crystal Palace game due to a burglary while he and his family were at home on Saturday.
Michail Antonio remains absent after suffering a medial knee ligament injury on international duty with Jamaica.
Spurs dominated the first half almost entirely, with around 75% possession, and took the lead through a header by the returning Cristian Romero.
But West Ham kept the score down and five minutes into the second half pinballing deflections landed the ball at Jarrod Bowen's feet and he finished tidily.
In the 74th minute, a lapse of concentration from Destiny Udogie had Vicario scrambling to close down Bowen. The ball fell to James Ward-Prowse, who stroked it against the post, but put away the kind rebound.
Spurs kept up the pressure but seemed to run out of ideas and lose faith, while West Ham grew in confidence to take home the points.
