Julen Lopetegui will leave Anfield furious with the scoreline and refereeing decisions on Wednesday night.

West Ham crashed out of the Carabao Cup in dramatic style on Wednesday evening as Liverpool romped to a 5-1 victory.

That result adds more pressure to an under fire Julen Lopetegui but the Spaniard, who was booked in the second half, will feel aggrieved not to have been awarded a penalty. The Hammers did have moments of quality that the scoreline perhaps does not suggest but an Edson Alvarez red card opened the floodgates for the hosts.

Here’s how the Wet Ham player ratings rated against Liverpool.

GK - Lukas Fabianski, 6

Made some decent saves tonight, including an impressive block to fend off Alex Mac Allister immediately before Mohamed Salah slammed home. Could perhaps be criticised for the Jota goal but it was sneaky work by the Reds forward.

LB - Aaron Cresswell, 7

Some really nice moments on his first start of the season. His quality from set play situations is still plain to see.

CB - Max Kilman, 2

It started so well for the £40 million centre back as he pinged a beautiful lobbed ball cross field for Coufal, he was also impressive when winning the header before the West Ham goal. However, all downhill from there. Was slammed by Kevin Nolan at half time for his role in the Jota goal and was nutmegged in the run-up to the second. Had a golden chance to pull one back after 65 minutes as the goal gaped in front of him but was far too clumsy with his footwork.

CB - Jean-Clair Todibo, 4

Less in the spotlight that his centre-back partner but did look dazzled as Jota stole in for the first Liverpool goal.

RB - Vladimir Coufal, 4

Had his work cut out with Cody Gakpo tonight and never looked like he had won that battle. Liverpool had so much joy on that flank. There were some quality balls into the box in his work going forwards.

CDM - Edson Alvarez, 3

Did enough with his body to help cause chaos ahead of the own goal but slow in his defensive work for the Liverpool third. Has been far too reckless in recent weeks and got his comeuppance tonight with two foolish yellow cards that will rule him out against Brentford.

CDM - Tomas Soucek, 5

Can often find himself in the thick of it but not tonight as Liverpool dominated possession. Subbed early in the second half.

LW - Crysencio Summerville, 6

Had his moments of danger with his pace, suggesting he deserves a regular role in the starting XI but lacked composure in the final third.

CAM - Carlos Soler, 4

A passenger. Did see more of the ball in the second half but far too rushed to find any quality.

RW - Jarrod Bowen

Had a young Liverpool defence worried on the occasions he did get running but not at his most influential. Perhaps not his best defensively helping Coufal out with the purring Gakpo either.

ST - Danny Ings, 6

A rare start for the striker, who is said to have impressed Julen Lopetegui behind the scenes. Had the ball in the back of the net early on but was offside. Little meaningful impact away from that.

SUB - Lucas Paqueta, 6

Some moments of quality but no hope of exerting his influence after West Ham went down to 10.

Did make an impact from the bench with enthusiasm but the match escaped any chance of a Hammers comeback.

A very quiet cameo from the winger.

Blasted a long shot from distance wide in injury time.
