West Ham 'plan' to submit bid for Manchester United star in the summer

West Ham United said to be readying a transfer bid for a Manchester United player in the summer window.

West Ham United are still interested in maligned Manchester United defender Harry Maguire - the Irons could submit a formal offer for the 31-year-old when the summer transfer window opens its doors.

This is according to a report from Football Insider, who mention that the Hammers tried to snap him up in the previous summer window, but the move fell through before it could be completed.

Maguire has played in 16 Premier League games this season, scoring a single goal and notching up two assists along the way. He has done an admirable job in place of the injured Lisandro Martinez - his performances in the current campaign seem to have caught David Moyes' eye.

Would Harry Maguire be a good signing for West Ham United?

Maguire and United certainly have not been a match made in heaven over the last few years. His lack of pace and limited agility how they can line up - he struggles to operate in a high back line. However, this will suit Moyes' style - the Scot has a propensity for playing deep and formulating counter attacks.

With Maguire in his team, West Ham will be able to effectively soak up pressure and sit in deep - he is imperious in the air and can deal with any threat launched into the box.

Moreover, he is not expected to be particularly expensive. The former Sheffield United captain will see his Red Devils contract expire in the summer of 2025 - therefore, United will be keen to recoup some of the £80 million fee they paid for him when he joined the club from Leicester City back in 2019. He could, however, command a significant wage - this was thought to be an obstacle when the Hammers tried to bring him on board last summer.
