'Deal Offered': West Ham could sign ex Premier League star who loves Nuno Espirito Santo

Nuno Espirito Santo and West Ham remain in the market for a centre-back before the end of the January window.

West Ham have reportedly been offered the chance to sign former Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier this January as the club looks for defensive reinforcements.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s immediate priority this month has been to boost his attacking options at the London Stadium and has done that through splurging nearly £50 million on Taty Castellanos and Pablo.

Now, attention turns to strengthening a defence that has shipped the most goals in the Premier League so far this season. Several names have been touted as potential options and the latest is Dier.

West Ham ‘offered’ ex Tottenham Hotspur defender

The defender, who worked under Nuno at Tottenham Hotspur, has reportedly been offered to West Ham. talkSPORT claim that the Monaco man has been proposed as a potential signing to the Premier League side having fallen out of favour in France.

Dier only joined Monaco at the start of the 2025/26 season but hamstring and calf injuries from October hampered his progress. The defender has been an unused substitute in the last two league games.

The 31-year-old would bring a healthy boost of experience to Nuno’s side with 274 Premier League appearances to his name. Speaking about the potential move, former Rangers star Ally McCoist told talkSPORT: “He would not be my first choice, or anywhere near my first choice, at this moment in time. There's no doubt about it. He's been quality, of course he has. West Ham need something but I'm not sure it's Eric Dier.”

Eric Dier outspoken in support of Nuno Espirito Santo

Dier was outspoken with his love for Nuno while the manager was at Spurs. After a 2-1 comeback win over Aston Villa in October 2021, the defender called on players to get behind the boss in words that could be easily applied to the struggle ahead of West Ham this season.

He said: “The way we reacted to the 1-1 was really important. We maybe could have started the second half better, it is something we still need to improve on but the reaction to the 1-1 was fantastic and we really put our foot on the gas and created a lot of chances and got the goal.

“100 per cent we believe [in the manager’s plan]. We have to keep calm. We had a tough couple of weeks under difficult circumstances. We were missing a lot of players, we went to Crystal Palace – injuries, sending offs, we really lost our balance there – and then we had two disappointing results.

“The Chelsea result did not reflect the game at all, we performed really well, especially in the first half and then the Arsenal game we were very disappointing. It’s early days, I think the performance yesterday was the best of the season and that shows a real reaction from the players. The players needed to show that reaction. For me it doesn’t really matter [about the circumstances], as players we have to perform and there are some levels you can’t drop below and we definitely did last weekend and that has nothing to do with the manager.”
