Relegation a 'very real possibility' for West Ham as Jon Spector makes immediate Nuno Espirito Santo reaction

West Ham have sacked Graham Potter but is Nuno Espirito Santo the right man for the job?

West Ham United were unconventional in the way in which they changed manager and there has been a clear change of direction too.

The appointment of Nuno Espirito Santo sees the return of a pragmatist, a manager who appreciates the result over style or substance and who appreciates that there is more than one way to win a game of football.

The squad needs some work, however, an immediate improvement was seen against Everton in that only one clear cut chance was afforded to the hosts. A 1-1 draw is a start and at least a step in the right direction under a manager who will make the Irons harder to beat.

Jonathan Spector on West Ham managerial change

It’s not often that a manager leaves a club without being sacked because of results or because they have been poached with Espirito Santo the rarest of things in that he simply had a difference of opinion to his previous club’s owner. When a manager so publicly says that he doesn’t get on with his boss, there is only ever going to be one outcome. Nottingham Forest’s loss appears to be West Ham’s gain though, but the sacking of Graham Potter and new appointment has caused a bit of a stir.

Former West Ham defender Jonathan Spector, speaking to London World via a top online casino, has been asked if it was right to get rid of Potter and if Nuno is the right man for the job.

He responded: “I think it’s always a difficult decision to change managers so early in the season. New players and ideas take time to implement. With that said, Nuno’s teams have historically been organized and solid defensively.

“This is an area for the club that definitely needs to be addressed, so from that aspect I understand the decision. Nuno has a proven track record in the Premier League addressing the issues that West Ham currently face so I do think that he’s a good choice to lead the team.”

Could West Ham get relegated?

The Premier League table doesn’t lie in that the Hammers sit 19th in the table. A couple of wins and the European places become a realistic target once again though and they couldn’t have a better manager to steer them away from trouble and start looking up the table. The newly promoted teams have all spent a lot of money with Spector asked if he thought relegation was a realistic threat.

He responded: “Relegation is still a very real possibility for the club, and I think they will need to make a few important additions both in the midfield and defence to improve the team.”

Until the January transfer window opens, Espirito Santo will have to work with what he’s got. The priority, as it was against Everton, was to tighten up and a 4-1-4-1 formation could be a regular feature. With Jarrod Bowen, Lucas Paqueta and Crysencio Summerville supporting Niclas Fullkrug, there are still plenty of players who can make something happen as seen with Bowen’s equaliser.

It might not be pretty, but give the current plight, the pragmatist is king.
