West Ham have a decision to make regarding whether to eventually sign the player

West Ham boss David Moyes has refused to rule out the possibility of re-signing Jesse Lingard. The attacking midfielder is currently training with the Premier League side.

He is a free agent following his departure from Nottingham Forest at the end of last season. The ex-England international has since been weighing up his options.

West Ham had him on loan a couple of years ago and are now casting their eyes over him again. Speaking on The Sports Breakfast show with Ally McCoist and Andy Townsend, Moyes has said: “Jesse has trained with us for three weeks and he’s improved greatly from when he first came in. He’s in really good condition – much better condition than he was when he first came in.

“I have to say, when Jesse joined us two years ago I think he scored nine goals in 15 games and was probably the difference between us getting into Europe for the first time.

“I want to give him every opportunity to get himself back in condition and see how he does.

“So there’s no real update on it at the moment, just to say that he’s back and getting much closer to the levels of fitness where you’d hope he would be.”

Lingard rose up through the ranks at Manchester United and went on to make 232 appearances for the Premier League giants in all competitions, chipping in with 35 goals. As well as his temporary stint at West Ham, the Warrington-born man also had loan spells away from Old Trafford at Leicester City, Birmingham City, Derby County and Brighton and Hove Albion to gain experience.

He joined Forest July last year on a 12-month deal and scored twice in 20 games for Steve Cooper’s side before heading out the exit door. He continues to keep up his fitness levels and the Hammers have a decision to make regarding his situation, with Wolves also linked with a swoop.
