West Ham could cash in on 'world-class' star to fund Graham Potter's squad overhaul
West Ham could cash in amid talk of a big offer for their star man.
West Ham are being tipped to cash in on one of their star players amid talk of a big offer in waiting this summer. The Hammers are in a transitional period, with Graham Potter struggling to turn things around in his early days in charge.
Potter has taken over a misshaped squad, at least as far as his style of play goes, and he will need to be given the opportunity to overhaul the squad this season.
But that doesn’t come free, and it’s likely West Ham will have to balance the books if they want to give Potter what he wants while remaining compliant with Profit and Sustainability rules. One quick way to fix that would be to sell star man Mohamed Kudus, who has struggled for form this season, only managing three goals and two assists despite having been a star performer last season.
According to GiveMeSport, West Ham could be set to receive an £84million offer from Al-Nassr this summer, and such an offer would likely be too good to resist, especially with the form Kudus has shown this season and the need to improve the squad as a whole.
Potter on Kudus
Potter has made it clear he is a big fan of Kudus’. He said earlier this year: “His potential is enormous. He’s an unbelievable talent, unbelievable potential. His high-end actions are world-class, there’s no doubt. For me, it’s just to help him understand his role in the team, understand the responsibility he has, how we will attack as a team and how we defend as a team and his role within that.
"But he does things that normal players can’t do, which is an unbelievable quality to have. Then it’s about fitting that into the team and helping him enjoy his football. I think if he’s enjoying his football, then you just see a player that can take us to another level."
Kudus on his poor form
The winger has been open about his struggles with form this season. “I’ve been below the standards I’ve set for myself,” Kudus told West Ham’s website with refreshing honesty. With the standards I’ve set and what I’ve shown, I think everyone also expects a lot from me, but I expect a lot from myself as well.
“I’ll keep doing my thing and keep trying until the last game of the season. I know a lot of things haven’t gone well this season. It’s football, there are a lot of ups and downs, but you need to be yourself at all times. I’ve set very high expectations of myself, even more than what the fans and others think, and I know the input and impact I can have in a game. I wouldn’t say it’s been my best season, but as a team, we’re at a stage right now where we are building and growing. The most important thing for me is to keep going and keep believing in myself and doing my thing. There’s a lot more to come from me.”
On adapting to Potter, he added: “We’re enjoying getting to grips with the new methods and ideologies the Head Coach has implemented. These things can take time, even though you don’t get a lot of time in this league. The vision is clear, and you can see everyone aligns with how he (Potter) wants to play.”
