West Ham set to save £17m with transfer decision to fund Graham Potter's squad overhaul

West Ham have the chance to freshen up their ranks when the next transfer window opens. Graham Potter will be keen to put more of his own stamp on their squad. The former Swansea City, Brighton and Hove Albion and Chelsea man was picked as their replacement for Julen Lopetegui earlier this season.
The Hammers are sat in 15th place in the Premier League table. They are 15 points above the drop zone after their 2-2 draw at home with AFC Bournemouth. The London outfit have seven more fixtures left to get through.

Hide AdWest Ham loan update regarding Carlos Soler
According to Football Insider, Carlos Soler is ‘unlikely’ to stay at West Ham beyond the expiration of his PSG loan deal. The report adds that there is an ‘option’ to make his switch permanent later this year for a fee of £17million. However, at this stage, it doesn’t appear that they will be exercising it.
Soler, 28, was given the green light to leave his parent club temporarily last year to get some game time under his belt. He was brought in by the Hammers to boost their midfield department and give them something different in the middle of the park. The Spain international, who has 14 caps to his name, has since made 27 appearances in all competitions, 25 of which have come in the league, and he has chipped in with one goal.
PSG signed him back in 2022 but he has struggled to nail down a regular place in their team. If he were to return to the Ligue 1 giants, they would have a big decision to make regarding his long-term future. He has played 63 matches for the French giants in the past and has scored eight goals.
What now for Carlos Soler at West Ham?
The player may well be heading into the final few matches of his West Ham career if Football Insider’s report is true. If they opt not to land him, they would save themselves £17million that could be used to pursue other targets. It is expected to be a busy few months ahead at the London Stadium as Potter plots additions.

Hide AdSoler rose up through the academy ranks at Valencia and was a regular for his local team at various different youth levels as a youngster. He broke into their first-team in 2016 and became a key player. He played 226 games during his time with the La Liga club and has found the net on 36 occasions.
After sealing a move to West Ham last August, he said: “I am really excited to be here as a West Ham player. It has always been a dream of mine to play in the Premier League, and to be doing it in London with a Club like West Ham is an incredible feeling.
“I can’t wait to feel the support of the fans, who I have already heard so much about from conversations with people who know the Club, like my good friend Pablo Fornals. I am excited about meeting my new team-mates and giving my all for this Club in the best league in the world.”
