Tottenham and Liverpool £51m transfer target 'sickened' by current club's form
Jarrod Bowen did not hold back when criticising West Ham’s form in recent Premier League matches.
Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool are supposedly readying transfer bids for West Ham forward Jarrod Bowen this summer and the England international has given a candid take on his club’s struggles this season.
The 28-year-old scored the equaliser in the 1-1 draw against Spurs at the London Stadium on Sunday afternoon, taking his tally for the Premier League campaign up to 10. Bowen has another five years left on his Hammers deal, having signed a long term contract in 2023, with any exit from the club seeming unlikely.
Nonetheless, CaughtOffside last week claimed that Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool are considering a €60 million mid, around £51 million, for Bowen. The outlet adds that West Ham are ‘not considering’ a sale for their star man but that the Premier League rivals are ‘keen’ to secure his signature in what would be a head-turning transfer move.
Spurs and Liverpool linked with ambitious West Ham transfer
Bowen has remained committed to the Hammers but did share his frustration at the 2024/25 season under Julen Lopetegui and Graham Potter when writing his programme notes ahead of taking on Spurs. The talisman did not mince his words as he heaped criticism on the team.
Bowen wrote: “We know how disappointing our season has been and one win over Spurs will not make up for our inconsistent performances and results, but we can only win the next game and our next game is against Spurs, so we want to win it. If we do, we’ll not only win a local derby, but we’ll also go above them in the table.
“To be honest, we should be above them in the table now, but we’ve got to say that we have not picked up the points we should have done, particularly over the last couple of months. We’ve got ourselves into some good positions in a number of games and either not won or lost them. Our last two have been sickening, and I don’t need to remind you what happened in them.
“All I can say is that we have got to be better, and got to be focused until the end of every game we play, because the Premier League is the toughest league in the world and if you are not on it, all the time, you will be punished.
“As captain, someone who has played here for over five years and as a member of a West Ham supporting family, I know how frustrated you feel about the way we have performed this season. It is way below the standard we set ourselves, I can assure you. But talk is cheap when results are not up to scratch and the only way we can prove how much we care, and how good we are as players, is by going out there today and performing and giving you something to get behind and cheer.”
Ange Postecoglou praises Bowen ‘attacking threat’
Bowen found the back of the net after 28 minutes against Tottenham Hotspur, tucking the ball past Guglielmo Vicario having been played in by Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The forward was singled out for praise by Postecoglou after the match.
Speaking about the West Ham goal, the Aussie said: "It wasn’t a great goal for us to concede, that's probably the only disappointing part of the day. But they’ve got some good attacking threats in Bowen and Kudus. They're always going to get an opportunity here or there. But I didn't like how we conceded the goal."
In other news, West Ham player ratings: 'Bright spark' 9/10 but 'clumsy' 4 makes big error v Tottenham.
