West Ham-linked Dan-Axel Zagadou is reportedly close to joining Stuttgart.

The defender emerged on the Hammers’ radar earlier this week but appears to be going elsewhere.

Zagadou, 23, remains a free agent following his departure from Borussia Dortmund at the end of last season.

According to reporter Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, he is ‘set’ to stay in the Bundesliga now (see tweet below):

No West Ham move

Romano adds that the player was ‘never close’ to joining West Ham, despite the strong specultaiton.

RMC journalist Fabrice Hawkins reported that David Moyes’ side were keen to lure him to the London Stadium and were in ‘pole position’ to get him (see below):

Zagadou spent the past five years on the books at Dortmund and made 91 appearances for the German giants in all competitions.

His best achievement during his time there was winning the DFB-Pokal last year.

Prior to his move to Signal Iduna Park, he played in France for PSG.

You can see why West Ham have been linked as he is decent age, has the potential to grow and develop in the future and one of thier current options in his position, Craig Dawson, is out of contract next summer.

However, Stuttgart are said to have swooped in now and the Hammers will have to look elsewhere if they want to bolster their defensive department before the January window.

The free agent market is open all year round and a few players still remain available since the end of the past campaign.
