Medical booked as West Ham beat Newcastle and Crystal Palace to sensational signing

Kalvin Phillips has struggled for minutes at Man City but all that could change with a move to east London.

West Ham United have agreed a deal with Manchester City for the loan signing of English midfielder Kalvin Phillips with medical booked for later this week, Londonworld has been exclusively told.

The Hammers have been in talks with City for the last 48 hours and the deal is now in an advanced stage with Phillips giving his words that he would swap Manchester for London until the end of the season.

Newcastle United and Crystal Palace were also interested but it is West Ham who have met City's loan demand with a fee in the region of £5million said to have been enough to secure the deal.

The 28-year-old has played just 89 minutes in the Premier League all season and is keen for a move to boost his chances of playing at Euro 2024. Phillips joined Manchester City in July 2022 but has not been able to break into Pep Guardiola's first XI even when Rodri is injured or suspended.

Last year, the former Leeds United midfielder admitted he needed to get back to playing regularly after England's 3-1 win over Italy. He told reporters at Wembley: "I know that I need to be playing games and competing every weekend. I'm going to have to decide on [my future] over the next months."

The Hammers are currently sixth in the Premier League and have enjoyed another brilliant Europa League group stage campaign, so Phillips will have both league and European games to get up to speed before the Euros in the summer. Before joining Manchester City, Phillips was considered one of the best midfielders in the league and enjoyed a stellar Euros at the heart of England's midfield that went all the way to the final before a penalty shoot out defeat to Italy.
