Graham Potter explains what West Ham star does 'really well' after Leicester City win

West Ham boss Graham Potter is speaking about one of his handy goalscorers.

West Ham made it back-to-back wins on Thursday night with a comfortable home win over strugglers Leicester City. Tomas Soucek was on target, and Jannick Vestergaard turned one into his own net to round off the scoring inside the first half.

The Hammers needed to back up their away win over Arsenal as they look to build some momentum under Graham Potter, initially getting off to a sluggish start under the new boss.

The Irons are now putting serious distance between themselves and the bottom three, now 16 points clear, and they can begin to look up the table, nine points off the top half.

As for the win over Leicester, Soucek has had a knack of popping up with key goals over recent years, and that has not gone unnoticed by Potter, who said after the game: “Tomáš Souček anticipates those chances really well. He has made a career of it. He gives everything to the team, works really hard and it’s nice for him on his [30th] birthday to score a goal.

“It was an important goal and I’m delighted for him, delighted for the team, and delighted for the players because they've been working really hard and it’s nice to get the rewards of two wins.”

West Ham now have two weeks off due to being out of the FA Cup, and Potter intends to give his players time off over the weekend. He added: “The players now need to recover after tonight. We’ll use tomorrow (Friday) to do that and then they’ll have some time with the families [over the weekend]. I think that's important.

“Then we’re back to training next week and working hard and preparing for another tough game here against Newcastle [on Monday 10 March]. But again, with the points we've had this week, with the performances in different ways, we can go into the week with confidence.”
