The Hammers will have been desperate to keep hold of the defender signed from Chelsea in 2022.

West Ham defender Emerson has been courted by Galatasaray in recent days ahead of the Turkish transfer window closing on Friday, September 13 in what have been worrying rumours for supporters of the London outfit.

It's been a big summer of recruitment under Julen Lopetegui at the London Stadium with Max Kilman, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Jean-Clair Todibo all coming in to bolster the defence. However, the Spaniard remains a little short of options in the left-back position.

Emerson has started each of the side's Premier League fixtures so far this season and his first choice in that role. New signing Wan-Bissaka can be deployed on the left, as he was in the Carabao Cup against Bournemouth, but is a right-back by trade.

West Ham legend Aaron Cresswell is the natural back-up for Emerson but the 34-year-old is nursing a hamstring niggle and has managed just one minute of football so far this season. Any sale of Emerson would therefore have proved problematic for the Hammers.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano provided an update on the transfer saga on Wednesday, in what will be welcome news for West Ham. Taking to social media platform X, he wrote: "Despite links with Turkish clubs, Emerson Palmieri has no interest in leaving West Ham. He’s staying at #WHUFC, very happy there."

Galatasaray are in the market for a new recruit in that position as the hours tick by on their window. The club had tried and failed to sign Lucas Digne from Premier League side Aston Villa this summer.

Emerson, who has made 85 appearances for the Hammers since joining for £15 million from Chelsea in 2022, is contracted at the club until 2026. West Ham also hold the option for another year, which left the club in a strong position for any negotiations.
