Ex West Ham striker and Premier League legend Carlos Tevez has been admitted to hospital in his home country of Argentina after suffering from chest pains.

The 40-year-old was taken to hospital in Buenos Aires on Tuesday and is set to remain in the hands of medical experts until tests on his health are completed. The post read: "Our head coach, Carlos Tevez, entered the Sanatorio La Trinidad de San Isidro with chest pains. The necessary tests were carried out and the results are positive. Tomorrow, he will continue a series of scheduled tests as part of a general check-up that is usually carried out."

Tevez, who has 76 caps for the Argentine national side, took charge at Independiente in August 2023 having had a short spell coaching Rosario Central. He retired as a player in June 2022 following a third spell with Boca Juniors.

The striker made 29 appearances for West Ham, scoring seven goals and picking up four assists between 2006 and 2009 when he first moved to the UK. From West Ham, he would go on to play for Manchester United and Manchester City, before heading to Juventus.

Tevez won the Premier League title twice with Manchester United in 2008 and 2009, and once with Manchester City in 2012.

Speaking to West Ham in 2022, Tevez shared his love for his time in north London and respect for the Hammers' fanbase. He said: “It was an incredible feeling. It was like love at first sight. I felt that I had to give something back because they gave me such a warm welcome.

"I remember whenever I was on the bench and not coming on in the game, the fans always called for me. But as I said earlier it was like love at first sight on both sides! There’s no other fans like at West Ham because they give it all for the Club.”
