Alan Shearer drops Premier League relegation prediction involving West Ham

West Ham have been predicted to still get relegated by ex-Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer. The Hammers are battling it out with Nottingham Forest and Leeds United to stay up. Wolves and Burnley are already gone.

Despite their win over Burnley, Shearer has said on Match of the Day: “West Ham, I still think. If you were to ask me, I think West Ham [will get relegated]. I can hear the West Ham fans screaming at me now.”

West Ham started this season with Graham Potter at the helm but he was sacked after a poor run of form. Nuno was then brought in after his departure from Forest and it initially took him a while to get to grips with life at the London Stadium. Things seem to have clicked for him now though and the results are starting to come.

Only Manchester United, Chelsea and AFC Bournemouth have picked up more points over the last five league games than the Hammers, Everton and Brentford. Nuno is managing to get the best out of his players. He will want their momentum to continue for as long as possible.

What now for West Ham as quest for survival continues?

West Ham are back in action on Tuesday night with a home clash against Manchester United. They will be in for a tricky test against the Red Devils. They have won their last four on the spin under ex-Hammers player Michael Carrick since Ruben Amorim’s exit.

Speaking after the victory over Burnley, Nuno said: “The boys did really, really well. They were committed, desire, organised, talent up front, nice goals, nice combinations and a clean sheet that makes us proud of the way we defend. Because I believe that everything starts from there. If we can fix it, then up front, we have talent that can help us.”

He added: “We knew how important it was to start the game well. From minute one, we were switched on, on the front foot, we press, we recover balls, we went. We didn't allow too many situations to Burnley. That makes a big difference, makes a big difference.

“Today, we managed the game well. It was a spell during the second half in the beginning that Burnley put us against the ropes, but then came our fans singing and helping us. I'm really happy for them to make this travel so far away on a rainy day and help us today. We cannot thank them enough. Let's try to put this energy into London Stadium on Tuesday.”
