Watford reportedly looked into a potential deal to sign AFC Bournemouth right wing-back Jack Stacey at the end of the last transfer window.

The Hornets were in the hunt for another option in his position but ended up sticking with what they had beyond the deadline.

Stacey, 26, emerged as a possible target for the Championship club but a move wasn’t possible in the end.

As detailed by The Athletic, Rob Edwards’ side made an ‘initially inquiry’ about the availability of the Berkshire-born man.

The report describes that a ‘permanent deal may have been possible’ but Bournemouth weren’t able to bring in a replacement.

No Watford move

Watford brought in experienced right-back Mario Gaspar in the last window from Villarreal following Kiko Femenia’s exit.

They also have Jeremy Ngakia in that position but another addition would have added more competition and depth to that department ahead of a busy schedule.

Stacey is a name that may well crop up again for them in the future. He only has a year left on his contract with the Cherries.

They signed him back in 2019 and the former Reading and Luton Town man has since made 87 appearances for them in all competitions, chipping in with one goal and six assists.

Other news

In other Watford news, William Troost-Ekong has turned down offers from Turkey to stay at Vicarage Road, as reported by The Athletic.

The Nigeria international has struggled for game time so far this term.
