Rob Edwards left Forest Green Rovers earlier this summer to take over at Vicarage Road and he will be eyeing an immediate promotion.

They have identified free agent Christie as someone to bolster their options at the back and the club are speaking to the Republic of Ireland international, as per The Athletic.

The same source suggests that Femenia is ‘close’ to leaving though which leaves a vacancy for his potential successor. The Spaniard is in ‘advanced’ discussions with Villarreal in a move that would see an end to his five-year stay in Hertfordshire.

He might not be the only player leaving either, with Scottish side St Johnstone eyeing a swoop for goalkeeper Pontus Dahlberg according to the Scottish Sun.

What would Christie offer Watford?

Christie is a vastly experienced player in the Football League now and has racked up over 400 appearances in his career to date.

He would give Watford more competition and depth in their squad if they were to seal a deal to land his signature.

The full-back also knows what it takes to get out of the second tier having helped former club Fulham go up twice in 2018 and then 2020.

Other news

In other Hornets news, their former defender Brandon Mason has been snapped up by League Two side Crawley Town.
