Tough week for the Lilywhites but they have to pick themselves for the Carabao Cup game.

Tottenham missed two key players during their North London derby defeat to Arsenal last weekend, with pressure already mounting on manager Ange Postecoglou. The honeymoon period is over, and there is increasing pressure on him to deliver a trophy for Spurs this season.

Postecoglou responded confidently after the defeat, stating that he was certain he would win a trophy in his second season, despite the impact of such a significant loss. He told Sky Sports: “I don't usually win things, I always win things in my second year,” when asked about a preseason interview where he mentioned that he typically wins trophies in his second season. “Nothing's changed. I've said it now.”

The Carabao Cup presents the first opportunity to secure silverware, but Postecoglou will be hoping to have both Richarlison, who has been sidelined with an injury, and Yves Bissouma, who picked up a knock, back in the squad soon. Bissouma was rushed to London for treatment in hopes of a quick recovery.

Bissouma is certain to miss the midweek Carabao Cup game, with Postecoglou likely to be cautious and save him for the weekend clash against Brentford. On the injury, Postecoglou said: “It's hard to say at the moment, it's a tweak in his groin. The initial reports are it's not serious, which means there is a chance for Sunday, which tells me it's nothing significant. If he doesn't make Sunday, then I'll assume he'll be right for after that. At the same time, he's just come off a long flight; you never feel great anyway. We'll see how he trains tomorrow, and that will give the best indication.”

Richarlison is also not expected to be ready for the midweek game after a training ground injury ruled him out of the Arsenal match and Brazil duty. Postecoglou added: “He’s in rehab, and we are going to take it a bit conservatively with him.”

The former Watford man is expected to return at the end of this month, but he is unlikely to be ready for the Carabao Cup third-round tie against Championship side Coventry.
