Speaking on Sky Sports, pundit Graeme Souness has said Tottenham Hotspur got their tactics ‘spot on’ against Manchester City. The London club beat the current champions 1-0 to pick up a big three points.

Striker Harry Kane scored the only goal of the game in the first-half and has now beaten Jimmy Greaves’ record and is the club’s all-time top scorer. His strike was also his 19th in all competitions this season.

Souness, who started his career at Spurs and played with Greaves, delivered his verdict after the match in the studio alongside Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards: “When you play City you aren’t going to have that much of the ball. You’re going to be on the back foot for a great deal of the game.

“They were organised, disciplined. City did dominate the ball but didn’t threaten Lloris too much.

“Tottenham got their tactics spot on. When you’ve got Harry Kane, a genuine world class footballer which for me that means he can go and get in any team, all you need is half a chance. He doesn’t hit it as clean as he normally does because he is a wonderful kicker of the ball, but he slotted it.”

He added: “They did deserve to win the game. I don’t think City were the same as we’ve seen over the last few years.”

City players were evidently getting very frustrated as the game went on and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is becoming a bogey ground for Pep Guardiola’s side. Winger Jack Grealish looked bright but Emerson Royal, who now has competition for his place from new boy Pedro Porro, dealt with him well.

Spurs remain 5th in the Premier League table and are four points off the top four now. Next up is an away trip to Leicester City.
