Tottenham Hotspur could see European hopes slip away if form doesn’t improve this season.

Tottenham Hotspur have been voted as the 'unluckiest sports team in the UK' in a new survey as the club's Champions League hopes hang in the lurch despite a superb start to the season.

Spurs flew out of the blocks under Ange Postecoglou at the start of the campaign. The Aussie led his side to eight wins and two draws in the opening 10 league outings, the club's best-ever start in the Premier League era.

However, the wheels have somewhat come off since then with suspect defending in recent weeks seeing the side concede 13 goals in their last four matches. Tottenham Hotspur now sit fifth in the table with Newcastle United, Chelsea and Manchester United all looking to challenge the side for a European spot

Recent form and a wait of over 16 years for a trophy has led to football fans across the country voting Spurs as the 'unluckiest' team in the UK. The club received 18% of the votes in a poll by Jacamo.co.uk.

Spurs have lost the Carabao Cup final, Champions League final and finished second in the Premier League since 2017.

In the poll, it was north London rivals Arsenal who came out in second place with 10.2% of the votes and Manchester United were in third with 7.5% of the poll. Forest Green Rovers, Leeds United, AFC Wimbledon and Leeds United all also finished in the top 10.

Speaking about his goals for the season following defeat to Fulham in March, Postecoglou said: “I don’t see fourth as a prize. This club has finished fourth before, it’s finished second before, it’s reached a Champions League final, so you can throw all sorts of things at it but this club has achieved things. Fourth is not my end goal.

“Fourth would be great if I feel like we’re growing as a team and we’ve created something that’s going to bring us success next year, but fourth is not our goal, it hasn’t been. It’s not my goal, it certainly isn’t my goal. If we finish fifth and I think we’ve got a team to challenge next year, I won’t be disappointed.”
