Fabrizio Romano drops Thomas Frank sack update as Spurs hold 'internal talks' over manager decision

Tottenham are languishing just above the drop zone, could they be about to pull the trigger on Thomas Frank’s tenure?

Tottenham aren’t in any real danger of getting dragged into a relegation battle and a congested Premier League table sees European football as still being a possibility despite the current run of form.

Spurs are nine points off the Champions League and, probably, only six off the European places with a run of positive results being all that stands between mid-table obscurity and a more respectable league position. The problem is, there is no indication that a run of good results is possible with just two wins from the last league games and defeat to West Ham putting Thomas Frank’s position under threat.

Fabrizio Romano makes Thomas Frank sack claim

Frank arrived from Brentford tasked with making Spurs more pragmatic after the front-foot philosophy of Ange Postecolgou, however, little has changed in terms of results with Spurs fans not even getting to see exciting football in defeat. According to Fabrizio Romano, talking on his YouTube channel, the Dane is hanging to his job by a thread.

"Tottenham tried to show support for Thomas Frank by appointing John Heitinga as a new part of the backroom staff during the week, but then over the weekend, Tottenham lose again. Now the situation is very, very complicated for Thomas Frank at Tottenham,” he said.

"His job is at serious risk. Let's see what happens in the next hours and days but the situation of Thomas Frank at Tottenham is not safe at this stage. They could change the manager, let's see if it's now or if they will give him opportunity to try and turn the situation but the situation is very tense for Thomas Frank at Tottenham.

"Thomas Frank is fighting to keep his job at Tottenham but the club will decide very soon, internal talks are taking place. The situation of Thomas Frank is in danger. His job at Tottenham is not safe."

Could Frank join the list of managerial casualties?

What won’t help Frank’s cause, is that Heitinga is available immediately to step up and cover on an interim basis. Having assisted Arne Slot to a Premier League title last season, he is well aware of what English football is about.

Enzo Maresca has already lost his job with Bruno Amorim being sacked too in what has become a month of uncertainty for managers. Oliver Glasner’s speech after Crystal Palace lost to Sunderland won’t have gone down well with Steve Parish either.

Injuries haven’t helped Frank’s cause, but he has more depth than Postecoglou had and has still been unable to get a consistent tune out of his squad. Regardless of whether or not he remains in charge when the window shuts, signing players with a clean bill of health and a wafer-thin medical file has to be a priority for Spurs.

Against West Ham though, Frank had a more than strong enough squad to beat a team that has been struggling all season and could well be relegated, which is why he is now feeling the heat and fearing for his future.
